The remarkable character of this magnificent Italian violin is defined through and through by the spirit of artistic sensitivity and craftsman excellence which attracted outstanding luthiers to the Monzino workshop in Milan from the late 19th century onward.

Founded in the mid-18th century, the Monzino & Figli workshop for stringed instruments experienced a major resurgence around the turn of the 20th century, and hiring Riccardo Antoniazzi in 1904 served as a milestone in this epoch. The Monzino workshop thus became a point of orientation in new Milanese violin making and gave masters such as Luigi Galimberti, Raffaelo Bozzi and Ambrogio Sironi an artistic home for decades; it was there that this violin was crafted. Its original label has become almost illegible and provides no information about whose hand made this slender and highly distinctive model, yet its design features an aesthetic and acoustic properties which were carefully considered down to the smallest detail, indicating the work of a virtuoso master who had a full command of all of the arts of his trade. Its large scroll with charmingly blackened edges are another expression of the experienced craftsmanship which produced the violin body of elegant spruce and a maple with unusually lovely flames; the violin has a rich coat of oil varnish. The harmoniousness of this instrument’s design is manifest in its clear and warm sound, full of timbre and with a radiant sweetness in its upper registers. Our luthiers have painstakingly set up this modern Italian violin and made it ready to play. It has been kept in top condition without any significant repairs, and it features our trade-in guarantee for Corilon clients.
