This old Italian violin came from the Officina di liuteria artistica Claudio Monteverdi in Cremona, and its warm, Italian sound and premium aesthetic reflect high standards in violin making. Under the directorship of Aristide Cavalli, who established the officina in 1880, the outstanding masters who worked there elevated the workshop to the key position it came to play in Italian violin making during the early 20th century. This Cremona violin features a highly individual and well-honed style; it was crafted in the 1920's and inspired by an elegant Oreste Martini model with a flat table and narrow sound holes which are typically set at a slight diagonal angle. On the inside of the body, an Oreste Martini label indicates the violin’s model from the officina and a signature, used to honour the masters from a family of prominent Cremonese violin makers who practiced their craft in the late 17th and 18th century. The moderately-grained top and the mildly flamed maple of the two-piece back create delicate accents under the strikingly lovely varnish. The delicately carved scroll, which is small by Italian standards, and carefully accentuated margins round out the inimitable appearance of this violin and its rich personality. Although free of cracks, this Italian violin from Cremona, dating from the 1920s, shows some signs of wear and has old, certified worm damage repairs—all of which are factored into the price—and is in good condition. This beautiful old Cremona violin was meticulously set up by the specialists in our workshop and made ready to play, making its musical properties – a resonant, timbre-rich voice and very good response – as compelling as its aesthetic is. Like all our violins and violin bows, we offer free shipping, a 30-day return policy and an unlimited trade-in guarantee.
The price includes a certificate from the Stuttgart-based expert Hieronymus Köstler.
