German FRAMUS violin, Bubenreuth approx. 1970 - top
Violon allemand Framus Bubenruth
Violino tedesco Framus Bubenreuth

German violin, Bubenreuth, probably Framus 1970's

This perfectly preserved unlabeled Bubenruth violin was most presumably built in the renowned FRAMUS ateliers in the violin making town of Bubenreuth in Bavaria. It was designed after a proven Stradivari model and is an attractive old violin of the 1970s that features a beautiful antique appearance, especially with its transparent, reddish golden-brown colored varnish over a light ground. The purfling was accurately inlaid and demonstrates the good quality of Bubenreuth musical instruments. The roots of this local tradition of violin making lead back to the region of Saxony and Northern Bohemia, where the founder of FRAMUS Fred Wilfer was born and educated, in Waltersgrün, a village near Schönbach. After World War II he became a bridge-builder for many craftsmen and their families who were expelled from Czechoslovakia. FRAMUS instruments that were built in Bubenreuth between 1946 and the late 1970s were highly sought after, especially guitars that were played - among others - by the Beatles. Bowed instruments, however, featured the same high standards, just as the Framus violin offered here, that bears only minor traces of use on its glossy varnish. It was worked over completely by our violin makers and is ready to play, with a recommendable bright, warm, clear and brilliant sound, that is rich in overtones.
