This recommendable old cello was crafted presumably in England in the late 20th century by an unknown maker on a French model. The English cello has a luminous orange-brown oil varnish with slight craquellation; the overall effect is striking and aesthetically appealing. Its look is characterised not only by the moderately-grained premium spruce of the top but by the gentle flaming of the two-piece maple back and ribs. The scroll is blackened. This old cello, bearing a Villaume brandstamp near the end pin, which is preserved in undamaged condition and thoroughly set up in our atelier, is now ready to play. The cello is convenient to play and has a warm, dark, balanced sound. As we are unable to produce professional photos and sound samples within the next months, we have added some quick photos and a self-made sound clip of this cello to this page.
