English violin, London, circa 1860

This delicate and elegant violin, which was crafted in the mid 19th century by an unknown master in London, had a slender model as its template. This historic master violin has remained in remarkably good condition. Its deep-red varnish has darkened dramatically over time, giving it a historic appearance. The unusually lovely and expressively carved scroll is grafted on, a repair that is commonly found on older instruments of high quality which enjoyed frequent use. The bushings on the exquisitely crafted narrow peg box were also repaired. The specialist luthiers at our atelier for restoration took great pains in meticulously setting up this instrument, which is now ready to play. Its powerful, radiant and mature sound features an outstanding timbre and precision, which is in keeping with the work of its experienced master. This voice is unmistakable and resonant with a dark, mature character.
