"Benettini, Milano": French violin from Mirecourt, approx. 1900

This antique turn-of-the-century violin is an unmistakable and typical representative of the instruments from the French violin-making town of Mirecourt; its provenance is indisputable, even though the "Bemettini, Milano" label suggests Italian provenance. One characteristic hallmark of its background is the narrow, elegantly carved sound holes which reflect the utmost artisanal quality, as is the extremely accurate purfling in the bee-sting. The highly transparent, golden-brown varnish complements the aesthetic effect of the deep flaming on the two-piece maple back and the extremely even grain of the spruce top. It is easy to envision this French violin ranking among the premium selection of the famous ateliers of Mirecourt at its time. With just a minor pegbox repair and a crackfree body, this old stringed instrument piece is well preserved and will win you over with its powerful, warm, bright sound full of character — a highly recommendable instrument in perfect condition, which our luthier set up carefully and made ready to play. The price includes a certificate of appraisal by Corilon violins.
