Modern Chinese violin for/by Beare & Son. Beijing 1995

Crafted in the 1990's for the highly esteemed British company Beare & Son, this excellent-quality violin represents the tradition of modern Italian violin making. Its lustrous soft oil varnish accentuates every detail of the strikingly beautiful tone woods, emphasizing the subtle and skillfully highlighted irregularities of the dramatic flames of the maple back which give this instrument its inimitable individuality. Made in 1995 in Beijing, this brilliantly successful piece patterned after the Venetian master Eugenio Degani exhibits outstanding craftsmanship and the artisanal sensitivity with which the premier workshops in China have won over sophsiticated clients around the world. The aesthetic of the instrument is enhanced by a lovely scroll with tastefully blackened edges, flawlessly executed purfling and finely carved sound holes on the moderately grained spruce top with its interesting lines. The luminously beautiful sound is full of a maturity and warmth that are surprising for such a young instrument; it promises to flourish and season beautifully in the hands of an experienced musician. A handwritten dated original label by Beare & Son confirms that the instrument was found to satisfy all of the quality standards of the historic company. It made its way to our workshop in undamaged and perfectly maintained condition, and we set it up completely and made it ready to play. We warmly recommend it to advanced musicians who want a solidly crafted instrument of lasting value with an appealing sound.
