Violin by Josef Bitterer

This Josef Bitterer violin is a fine Mittenwald violin, is a fine and high quality masterpiece instrument that was made around 1960-1970, relatively late by Josef Bitterer. The woods are very well selected. The top is made of fine grained spruce, the two piece back of flamed maple with similar ribs. The varnish is an oil varnish of a transparent and intense orange-brown color. The varnish shows some marks and nicks and signs of polish on top. The beautiful scroll is carefully carved. The top is repaired at the bass soundhole, the violin is otherwise undamaged. Theis fine Josef Bitterer violin is set up with new bridge, soundpost and strings and in immediate playing condition. The sound is clear, bright and open, powerful, resonant, mature in the lower ranges.
