English violin, William Reid Watt, Birmingham 1926

This recommendable handmade English violin was made by William Reid Watt in Birmingham in 1926 and it bears the original label. The mature appearance of the rich, deep red colored oil varnish which has developed strong crackling and patina is complemented by good quality tonewoods, medium grained spruce that was used for the top and deeply flamed maple, that was used for the two piece back. The model is a slim Stradivariuss model with medium arch and an indivicually shaped scroll. This beautiful English violin is despite its varnish flaws preserved crackfree and in excellent condition. It has been worked over by the luthiers in our workshop and is offered ready to play, with new strings, bridge and soundpost. The rounded sound is of good strength and brilliant clarity, dark, warm and resonant, rich in overtones, powerful and well-balanced.
