Experts appreciate Klingenthal instruments from the early 19th century for their outstanding acoustic qualities as well as their distinctive temperament and the nuances of their mature historic voices. This cello, which was crafted around 1830 by an unknown master, serves as an impressive confirmation of Klingenthal's good reputation, due to its sound and the sophisticated craftsmanship with which it was made. The yellow-brown varnish clearly reveals the instrument's provenance, whilst its heavy patina creates a charming historic character which complements the lovely and well-chosen tone woods. The unique aesthetic of this cello is defined by the close flaming of the two-part maple back, the delicate way in which the corners and edges were shaped, and the expressive carving of the scroll. As is fitting for an instrument of its age, it has had several repairs to the ribs and top, including a crack which was painstakingly mended in our atelier for restoration; this explains the economical price. By restoring this cello, our experts have successfully brought back to life a warm, velvety voice full of depth. This instrument's sound is rich in eloquence and radiance, giving musicians multiple interpretive opportunities. Like everything in our catalogue, this cello is ready to play, and we warmly recommend it to musicians with demanding standards.
