Antique French 3/4 cello by J.T.L., approx. 1880

Around 1880, this French 3/4 cello was built at the respected Mirecourt ateliers of Jérôme Thibouville-Lamy (J.T.L.). With its outstanding craftsmanship, easy playability and elegant sound, it ranks amongst the rare top-quality instruments for young musicians. The French 3/4 cello has an original label by Jérôme Thibouville-Lamy (J.T.L.) which indicates it was created as part of the successful Compagnon series. The expressive scroll and luminously transparent, reddish-brown varnish reflect the flawless quality of Compagnon instruments. This French 3/4 cello has traces of use which are typical for an antique cello of its age, and minor repairs were made at the ribs and the back joint but have no effect on the sound. Both are common for a cello that has been enjoyed by generations of good musicians. The 3/4 cello has been preserved in very good condition, and after having been expertly set up in our atelier, it is now ready to play. With its lovely gentle voice, this 3/4-sized cello is the ideal partner for musical training at high standards, and its radiant sound in the upper registers will inspire enthusiasm.
