This historic Mittenwald cello hails from the atelier of a skilled and experienced luthier; it is an outstandingly crafted instrument made for Neuner & Hornsteiner with a sound that is rare in its beauty. Its warm and mature singing tone is as clear in character as it is sweet, thus permitting musicians to achieve express themselves precisely in complex musical performances. The cello's southern German Mittenwald heritage is clearly evident: it was made in keeping with the region's artisanal traditions. Its maker chose tone woods which were unassuming from an aesthetic perspective but rich in wonderful tonal properties. Over time, the deep bordeaux-red varnish that bears some protective coat has darkened to nearly black, developing a charming historic appearance with a lovely patina. Like many other cellos of a similar age, this cello has repairs, among them some ancient worm damage, which allows us to offer this fine cello at a competetive price - while they have no impact whatsoever on the sound. The delicate scroll reflects the great esteem that musicians of early generations showed this instrument. Our luthiers have reviewed the cello and the solidity of the restorations which were done something which is non unusual for an instrument of this age. The cello is ready to play, and it has earned our special recommendation for its exceptionally good sound.
