Violin maker H R Pfretzschner
As one of the brands with the richest traditions in the field of German bow making, the name H. R. Pfretzschner (1857–1921) stands for a bow making workshop with over 140 years of family history – and it also stands for a cultural bridge not only between cultures but in the musical world as well. In the 1870s, Hermann Richard Pfretzschner came to know the innovative strength of François Nicolas Voirin whilst working for Jean–Baptiste Vuillaume, and these were the insights he took with him back to his home in Saxony, where he eventually became an appointed purveyor to the royal Saxon court and an influential master whose works still enjoy high regard amongst top-tier musicians today.
