Good German viola bow, silver mounted: A fine piece of work by Walter Mettal, made in the second half of the 20th century - probably in the 1980s. The stout octagonal stick is strong, yet with good tension, it is made of reddish brown pernambuco. The ebony frog is real silver mounted with Parisian eye and mother of pearl slide. The stick and head are strongly crafted, based on a Markneukirchen model. The felt center of gravity is centered and measured at 28.6 cm including legs. This very good, all-purpose Walter Mettal viola bow plays strong and active, and is very well balanced and easy to hold, this fine bow produces a warm, big, clear, radiant tone.
