A contemporary English masterpiece, this bow for a viola da gamba measures 74.2 cm and features the original "J. BOBY" stamp. Crafted from premium snakewood ― the classic material used in historic bow making― the bow is recommended both because of its solid and comfortable playing characteristics as well as its elegant appearance. Decorative fluting along the length of the stick is simple and sophisticated alike. The frog, which is also crafted out of snakewood, is patterned after classic models by the famous master John Dodd. The balance point feels well-centred and broad, located at 27.6 cm of the total length of 74.2 cm. The solid but responsive stick of this young gamba bow is light and sits well in the hand, allowing you to play with precision and enjoy a clean, sophisiticated and delicate sound. It is ready to play after having been thoroughly set up by the specialists at our atelier for restoration.
