Luca Mario Gallo (born 1962) has been part of the unique global circle of master craftsmen that has emerged in the traditional northern Italian music city since the 1950s, ever since he trained at the violin-making school in Cremona. This young viola, built by Luca Mario Gallo in 2023 based on a personal model, is also representative of classic craftsmanship with unmistakable Cremonese provenance: a tasteful antique oil varnish highlights the distinctive grain of the fine to medium-aged spruce used for the top, and plays with the flowing flame of the two-piece maple back – masterfully selected and crafted tonewoods that give this pleasantly light Cremona viola a warm and bright sound with the special character of the viola, rich in volume and with a sweet touch in the high notes. After his violin from the early years of 1985, this viola is the second instrument that Luca Mario Gallo has entrusted to us; it not only attests to the high standing of his art in a challenging category of string instruments, but also documents his development from the 1980s to the present day.
