This fine French petite viola (38.5 cm) was made in a time, in which the viola was still considered as a minor instrument of violin family. It is a small viola of remarkable quality, made in Mirecourt around 1850 in the circles around the Grandjon family on the model of Stradivariuss with rather flat archings and a charcateristic scroll, typically cut in the French Mirecourt style of the time. The unknown maker who handcrafted this gorgeous petite viola in the mid 19th century did particularly well selecting the beautiful Vogesian woods with their interesting irregulair grains for their tonal qualities. The transparent gold-brown varnish is highly patinated and underlines the special beauty of the tonewoods. Some acceptable repairs and signs from playing indicate that this petite viola has been serving excellent players for many years. Includes Corilon's trade-guarantee and an optional certificate of appraisal.
