Johann Wilhelm Knopf was already considered one of the best stringed instrument bow makers in Germany during his lifetime – a reputation that has been confirmed throughout the history of bow making. The Johann Wilhelm Knopf violin bow offered here provides a glimpse into the workshop of the young master: created around 20 years before the opening of his Dresden workshop, which marked the peak of his career, this violin bow, weighing only 55 g, reveals a masterful hand that has internalized the best standards of Saxon bow making and, in particular, his family tradition. He created the unstamped round stick from high-quality pernambuco wood with a noble reddish-brown color, to which he added an exceptionally attractive nickel silver-mounted frog made of fine Mauritius ebony with Parisian eyes. The three-piece frog with eye and the genuine silver winding round off the tasteful appearance of the bow, whose origin is certified by expert Christian Hans-Karl Schmidt. Inspected and tested in our workshop, we deliver this interesting piece of Saxon musical instrument history in ready-to-play condition.
