Prosper Colas (1842-1919) was a great French bow maker who worked in Mirecourt. This highly recommended French violin bow by the great French master and almunus of J.B. Vuillaume Prosper Colas (1842-1919) is a masterpiece made of tropical brasil wood. The violin bow stamped P.S. is an unmistakable work of this master was made around 1890 and is a typical example of Prosper Colas' work during the period of his greatest successes. The round stick is of good stiffness and extremely elastic. The total weight is 62.5 g and its perceived balance point is towards the centre, measured at 27.4 cm of the total length of 74.2 cm. This fine Prosper Colas bow embodies all of the good playing attributes that French bows are famous for. With its mother-of-pearl eye and the white-rose mother-of-pearl slide, the nickel fittings of the frog are both straightforward and elegant in equal measure. Its extremely large, warm, bright and precise tone is amongst the characteristics that confirm it is a piece made by a most talented master hand.
