This antique French violin was crafted around 1930 in a Mirecourt atelier in the style of Jacobus Stainer, whose work greatly influenced generations of German violin makers. Although the Italian tradition founded by Stradivari ultimately had more impact, Jacobus Stainer instruments are prized today and have highly arched backs and tops as their most prominent feature. The characteristic arching toward the centre is especially well articulated in this instrument, which bears a French “Jacobus Stainer” model label within. Its top is made of moderately grained spruce. The dark orange-brown varnish covering the golden-yellow shimmering round of the two piece maple back gives this unmistakably French instrument a sophisticated touch. Despite some varnish flaws - at the left upper rib and to the scroll - the violin is in very good condition, it has no cracks or repairs. Like all old stringed instruments from Corilon violins, our professional luthiers have thoroughly worked over the instrument and made it ready to play. We highly recommend this violin for its warm, clear, matured, brilliant sound of great power.
