This very well cared for antique German lion head violin with rim ornaments and clear, powerful sound was made in Saxony around 1880 and is preserved in collector condition. The model is after Jacobus Stainer, as indicated on a handwritten model label inside. The top is made of medium grained spruce, the back is one-piece and crafted of mildly flamed maple. The scroll is carved in the shape of a typical Saxon lion's head. The instrument is in very good condition, the purfling ornaments fully preserved and completely undamaged. Like all our violins, this lion head violin is set up ready to play. The powerful, clear sound is very strong, dark, bright in the upper ranges.
