This old German violin is an exceptionally beautiful instrument that was handcrafted approx. 1880 by an unknown luthier in Saxony. The golden-brown varnish over a lighter ground emphasizes the mature appearance of the violin, that was carefully built after a Stradivarius model with flat arching. Its character is additionally underlined by the impressive flaming of the high quality sycamore maple of which the two-piece back is made. Some expressive traces of use demonstrate that the violin was played by some very good musicians before, and indeed its warm, mature, bright sound reveals excellent acoustical qualities, with great resonance and precision, unusual for a violin in this price range. We offer this crackfree violin after a meticulous workover and approval by our luthiers in fine and immediate playing condition.
