Antique Markneukirchen violin, probably Schuster & Co.

This red-brown varnished antique Markneukirchen violin labeled "Deutsche Arbeit" is an attractive instrument with slight traces of use that has a clear, dark and mature sound. This red-brown varnished antique Markneukirchen violin labeled "Deutsche Arbeit" is an attractive instrument with slight traces of use that has a clear, dark and mature sound. This antique violin was built after the classical model of Hopf a pattern that influenced violin making in Saxony for many generations. It was built in the early 20th century probably by Schuster & Co. as a trade instrument. The violin is a beautifully shaped Hopf type instrument, with a narrow waist and high archings towards the upper and lower bouts. A two piece back with tastefully crafted edges and corners demonstrate the flawless skills of the violin maker. He applied a dark red-brown colored varnish that perfectly completes the antique appearance of the violin, the surface shows some signs from playing but the instrument is preserved with two short repairs at the sound hole checks in good condition. Our luthiers spent time and effort to work it over and made it ready to play. This good violin recommends itself with its clear radiant sound that has both a mature and bright character and is well-balanced across the strings.
