This antique mid 19th century violin with a mature, clear, exceptional sound is a well-preserved piece of flawless craftsmanship by C. F. Hopf in Klingenthal in Saxony, where it was built on a typical model approx. 1850. The light-brown varnish was thinly applied over a light ground as it is typical for the violin-making-tradition influenced by the great Hopf family workshop at the time. The varnish developed interesting patina and determines the antique appearance of this highly recommendable Klingenthal violin. The scroll is full of character and demonstrates the skills of a well-educated hand, just as the nice purfling, that was neatly executed. We recommend this antique 19th century C. F. Hopf violin for its exceptional state of preservation and sound in this price range - a clear, warm responsive sound, sweet and resonant voice rich in overtones, that is ready to play after a complete work-over in our atelier for violin making and restoration. The violin has no cracks or damage.
