This good antique French violin is an attractive and good sounding piece of work made around 1920 in Mirecourt, France - most likely in the Laberte workshops. It bears Labertes Stradivarius model label. The woods of quality and well selected: the top is made of medium grained spruce, the two piece back of narrow and fine flamed maple. The transparent yet luminous varnish is of a warm orang-brown color, very tpical for Mirecourt instruments of this type. The violin is in excellent undamaged condition and has been luthier-checked and set up with a new bridge and soundpost and new Pirastro strings. The extraordinary strong sound is clear and bright and nicely resonant.
