Luthier Claude Chevrier demonstrated his standing as a self-confident master in his guild with this French violin – an interpretation of the Didier Nicolas model, this violin offers professional musicians the acoustic virtues of classic Mirecourt violin making at its loveliest for an affordable price.

Among the discoveries to be explored in French violin making of the 19th century, special mention should be made of the luthiers of the wide-ranging Chevrier family, which yielded remarkable masters over a period of more than 150 years. The most closed genealogical line started with Claude Chevrier, who began practicing his craft in the 1820s, and carried onward until the 1980s. With this instrument dated around 1850, Chevrier showed himself to be an experienced master who worked with carefully chosen materials; he implemented this model by Didier Nicolas – one of the most influential role models from this generation of Mirecourt violin makers – in its full breadth and knew how to apply his insights to creating top-tier violins. The one-piece maple back features spectacularly beautiful and extremely rare flames whose details are perfectly accentuated under the bright transparent varnish. An experimental, darker colour on the middle ribs and the delicately carved scroll create an unusual aesthetic – an unmistakable expression of the non-conformist individuality of this violin. Claude Chevrier‘s original brandmark confirms the authenticity of this perfectly undamaged violin which has been kept in unusually good condition; the expert violin makers at our workshop painstakingly set up the violin and made it ready to play. With its radiantly bright sound, this antique violin blends warmth with clarity. This powerful violin will open up broad musical interpretive options for professional musicians with a limited budget – and offers them reliable security thanks to our trade-in guarantee.
