Atelier Collin-Mézin fils in Mirecourt represents a tradition of solid craftsmanship and powerful sound in French violin making in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
In 1924, this French violin, “Modèle Victorieux,” was crafted by Collin-Mézin fils, a very fine-sounding violin from this maker with the original Ch. J. B. Collin-Mézin label. Charles Jean Baptiste Collin-Mézin (pere) was an outstanding figure in French violin making in the late 19th century; he was friends with many renowned soloists of his time, won numerous awards, and established the good name of the Collin-Mézin workshop, which was later continued by his son Charles Louis “fils” under his name. The beautifully flamed, two-piece back and the very even top with the typical flat arching of this Collin-Mezin violin are adorned with an orange-brown varnish that is remarkably well preserved. Ready to play, this Collin-Mezin violin is offered in very good condition with no cracks. Its strong, mature, bright yet clear, balanced warm tone has wonderful resonance – suitable for soloists and discerning musicians. Like all our violins and bows, it comes with Corilon's trade-in guarantee and an optional certificate of value.
