Having matured for 200 years, the wonderful voice of this historic Mirecourt violin c.1770 exemplifies the  main oeuvre of an extremely interesting master: Jean-Baptiste Grand-Gérard's distinctive model found its most beautiful manifestation in this instrument.

This French violin from the main oeuvre of Jean-Baptiste Grand-Gérard represents the stylistically mature hand and the wealth of experience this remarkable master had; his personal violin model gave this outstanding instrument its inimitable voice. The widely positioned sound holes with short eyes are a typical element of his style, which closely followed the vibration characteristics of the excellent tone woods he selected from the Vosges mountain. The gentle flames of the two-piece maple back and ribs define the unassuming aesthetic in which the beautiful lines of the finely to moderately grained spruce top sets delicate accents. The historic varnish conveys the story that this magnificent-sounding instrument was intensely used by generation after generation of excellent musicians who kept it in premium condition. Free of any major damage, with minor rib repairs only, this classic Mirecourt violin is in a wonderful state and has offers the full range of its large radiant voice full of timbre and character, a voice that has matured for over 200 years – and opens up a rich palette of contemporary musical options for demanding musicians. The certificate by Jean-Jacques Rampal is included in the price.
