An exquisite rare instrument with an unmistakably Italian character, this violin dates back to the later years of luthier Benvenuto Botturi's career, as is confirmed by a dated original label inside the body and a certificate of authenticity signed by Benvenuto Botturi himself. The remarkable master luthier's main oeuvre comprises some 100 instruments and approximately 200 bows he made within the very short period of only twelve years between 1929 and 1941. The narrow model of this particular violin has a moderately high table and rather short and blunt corners, reflecting the traditions of Brescia, Benvenuto Botturi's hometown. The graceful and painstakingly carved scroll and deep fluting on the top made of excellent finely-grained spruce show that even in Benvenuto Botturi's later years, he still had a confident and experienced hand. This piece is the work of someone who no longer had to make a living from his trade. A rich coat of orange oil varnish highlights the dynamic and intricate flames of the two-piece maple back. This Italian violin, which was kept in top condition, was completely set up and made ready to play. It is a sterling example of the work of an internationally sought-after master luthier, and we recommend it because of its large and warm sound, a voice that is clearly Italian in origin and features bright singing notes in the upper registers. Includes a certificate by Benvenuto Botturi.
