Italian violin from the golden age of the Monzino Milano workshop – an instrument with an excellent sound.

This Monzino Milano violin from around 1910 is a rare opportunity for discerning musicians looking for a typically Italian violin with a beautiful sound: built according to an individual, flat model, it offers all the advantages for which Italian violins are famous.

This interesting Italian violin from the famous Milan-based workshop Monzino is a well-crafted Italian instrument that is full of character and rich in a bold and exhilarating beauty. It features the original label and was made around 1910, a time when Antonio Giacomo Monzino (1847-1929) was in charge of the atelier founded in 1750 and successfully exported stringed instruments from Milan throughout the globe. He also maintained close connections to the best luthiers of the Cremona school including Romeo and Riccardo Antoniazzi (1860-1913) and his assistant Erminio Farina (1885-1917). Many fine instruments were built and talented violin makers were trained in these refined Milanese circles and later went on to become outstanding masters of their trade; their milieu encouraged flawless and highly creative violin making and spurred its members to produce simple trade violins but also masterfully crafted pieces such as fine violins by Luigi Galimberti. The unique and flat model of this beautiful Monzino instrument radiates Italian self-confidence. We are able to offer it at an attractive price despite a few minor blemishes in the luminous orange-brown oil varnish, which in no way affect the Monzino violin's magnificent sound. Its enchanting voice is a perfect reflection of the highly sought-after acoustic ideal of Italian instruments; it is resonant and melting, bright and golden in colour. Our luthier gave special attention to this remarkably beautiful Monzino violin and has made it ready to play after meticulously setting it up. One particularly serendipitous detail about this violin is the original Monzino violin case, which we could not bear to separate from its instrument after over 100 years of being together; we are selling it along with the violin.
