Massimo Negroni is one of the formative masters of contemporary violin making in Cremona, whose teaching at the famous violin making school and in his atelier continues to produce promising instruments by talented students - like this violin made in 2000 under the master's supervision.

Massimo Negroni's model and original acknowledgement confirms the Cremona origin of this nicely crafted violin; it is a young testament to the flowering to which Cremonese violin making has reached since the revival of the violin making school by Pietro Sgarabotto and Gio Batta Morassi in the 1950s. Massimo Negroni trained with him and with Sgarabotto's student Sesto Rocchi; since 1981 he has been passing on his knowledge to young violin makers like Beduzzi. The subtle antiquing of the exceptionally handsome, lustrous spirit-oil varnish of red-brown color gives the violin a remarkable individuality. The comparatively wide purfling and the perfectly harmonious proportions of the scroll are only the most visible signs of the certainty of the hand that made this violin. The aesthetic promise is fulfilled by its excellent, typically Italian, melting sound, which combines warmth, maturity and precision. The specialists of our workshop have studied the performance of their young colleague with great interest and have prepared the violin ready to play during a thorough inspection. Here you can find an overview of the most important Cremona violin makers who are still active today.
