Valerio Ferron, Cremona: Fine Cremona Violin after Guarneri del Gesù

The Cremonese violin maker Valerio Ferron is one of the most distinguished violin makers of his generation in Cremona. After graduating from the Scuola di Liuteria Antonio Stradivari, he has received numerous awards at national and international violin-making competitions, including the prize for the best violin in Italy in 2010. His workshop on Largo Boccaccino, not far from Piazza del Comune, stands in the direct lineage of the great Cremonese tradition. The Italian violin offered here is modeled after the Guarneri del Gesù and demonstrates how consistently and meticulously Ferron approaches his historical models. The aging process is executed with remarkable care and technical mastery: through patient attention to detail, the master has imparted a depth and patina to the oil varnish—whose golden-brown base radiates a warm, luminous tone—that evokes the old Cremonese masters, not by imitating their aging processes, but by continuing them in his own distinctive way. The scroll deserves special attention—an expressive component, crafted with confidence and character, that reveals the instrument’s high quality at first glance. Sonically, the violin exhibits a clear, resonant response with a sweet, pleasantly balanced character in the upper registers. The volume is in the mid-range—an instrument that impresses visually and through its transparency and nuance, not through loudness.
