Attractive French violin, Marc Laberte studio, ca. 1950 – “Carlo Guidantus” model

This exceptionally well-made French violin is an instrument from the “Carlo Guidantus” series, which the Mirecourt studio of Marc Laberte produced with great success. The lovely, broad model impresses with a good response and a typical French sound that is clear, mature and has an interesting dark character.

Marc Laberte is one of the personalities in the history of the famous French violin-making town of Mirecourt who were successful in the various genres of violin making as well as with high-quality bows. His remarkable standing is documented not only by numerous medals and no fewer than six Grand Prix at international exhibitions, but above all by excellent instruments such as the Marc Laberte violin from the in-house “Carlo Guidantus” series that we are offering here. This attractive piece presents a lovely, broad model with a gentle fluting and very cleanly cut sound holes. The top is made of medium-grained spruce, the beautiful one-piece back of deeply flamed maple – high-quality tonewoods, adorned with a soft, orange-brown oil varnish with subtle antiquing. Our luthiers carefully worked over this recommendable violin and made it perfectly ready to play.
