The label inside bears the Latinized inscription Joannes Petrini, Scuola Cremonesis, Malungensis and is dated 1990—an indication that Lisper completed his training at the renowned Cremona school and crafted his instruments according to the classical Italian tradition. Hans Lisper was far more than a craftsman: he was a Riksspelman—one of the highest honors for Swedish folk musicians—and received the Zornmärket in silver as early as the 1970s. This deep understanding of the instrument as a musical tool shaped his work as a luthier: he knew exactly what a violin must be capable of.
