The instrument is an old master violin having a rare mellow, dark-sweetish tone. The instrument is a fine Schonbach piece of work made around 1920. The violin is labelled with a handwritten label by August Neubauer. The model is after Guarnerius with delicate extended soundholes. The woods and workmanship are of quality and accuracy. The wood on top is well selected fine grained spruce, the back of narrow flamed maple. The varnish is an oil varnish of a warm brown color with some descreet antiqueing. The violin is luthier-set up and in perfect, completely undamaged condition. Its mellow sound is big and warm, dark-sweet, rounded and generally well-balanced. Special recommendation.
