Léon Victor Mougenot: Characterful French violin from the 1920s in a masterfully crafted, elegant style, with a big, mature and warm sound.

French violin from the renowned Mirecourt workshop of Léon Victor Mougenot in its heyday: finest craftsmanship in every detail, crack-free and in excellent condition.

Léon Victor Mougenot (1874–1954) was one of the most respected French violin makers of his time, training 65 students in his workshop in Mirecourt, which he founded in 1899—many of whom went on to become sought-after and influential masters in their own right under his guidance. The characterful Mougenot violin offered here was made during the heyday of his workshop. With its original label “modèle d'après Guarnerius,” it is an impressive example of the artistry cultivated at this rare center of craftsmanship in the history of violin making: The excellent selection of tonewoods, the fine workmanship of the corners, and the scroll carved with contemporary elegance reveal the hand of an experienced master, finished with a dark, orange-brown spirit varnish of the highest quality. Its large, warm, mature sound does justice to its old Italian model and meets the highest musical standards. With interesting traces of playing, which are to be expected from an excellent, well-played instrument of this age, the violin is in very good condition, free of cracks and ready to play after a thorough inspection in our workshop. We deliver worldwide with free shipping, a 30-day return policy and the Corilon trade-in guarantee.
