Swiss violin maker Jakob Emil Züst is considered one of the most influential masters of his generation, who had a formative influence on Swiss violin making in the 20th century, not only because of his intense commitment to training young craftsmen. This violin was made in his Zurich workshop in 1926, and its fine, understated style only reveals its artisanal quality at second glance. Every detail of this J. E. Züst violin is a testament to his mature, masterful artistry, inspired by an unmistakably urban spirit. Designed after a model by Antonio Stradivari, it occupies a special place in the oeuvre of the multi-award-winning master, who had a preference for the Guarneri del Gesù model. The reddish-brown, opaque varnish plays with the beautiful grain of the high-quality spruce top and the flaming of the two-piece maple back, finished with the delicate craquelure that the violin has developed over time.
