Southern German violin, approx. 1850

Made around 1850, this antique 19th century violin is a high quality instrument from southern Germany, most likely Mittenwald. The antique appearance of this outstanding antique violin is determined by the luminous and rich oil-based varnish and the striking beauty of the tonewoods. The expressive scroll is beautifully crafted. With only a professional repair of the rib which is invisible, the violin is in remarkable condition: the violin body is undamaged, and ready to play, worked over in our workshop and ready to play. The warm sound of this violin is somewhat dark and somewhat mellow and rich in overtones in the higher registers.
