1/2 - Antique French Médio Fino 1/2 violin, 19th century

The Jerôme Thibouville-Lamy J.T.L. workshops in Mirecourt have been famous for the high quality and the exceptionally good sound of their instruments, especially in the 19th century. Also smaller sizes like this 1/2 violin "Médio Fino" model, which was manufactured around 1900, have a very good reputation. This violin is preserved in almost like-new condition. The length of back measures 30,6 cm, the archings are of the flat type. The top is made of wide-grained spruce and the one-piece back is made of maple with an interesting figure. Scratched purfling is typical for the Medio-Fino series of J.T.L. The shiny orange-brown varnish shows slight signs from playing, unique features that add character to this antique instrument. The 1/2 violin is in good undamaged condition and ready to play. The sound is warm and open, of amazing response with a warm character.
