SALE Didier Nicolas (L‘Ainé), French violin, circa 1820

SALE This exceptionally lovely early 19th century violin made by the influential Mirecourt luthier Didier Nicolas L'Ainé is a powerful master instrument that has been crafted in the final years before his death in 1833. As one of the personal master instruments which were made by Didier Nicolas there can be no doubt about the mastery of the founder of the Didier Nicolas workshop, given the defining characteristic details and the flawless quality of the instrument’s execution: the finely crafted purfling is the unmistakable expression of Didier Nicolas style, as is the premium light-brown spirit oil varnish which has developed a wonderful historic patina over the course of the decades. The table bears some retouch, but no cracks. Expressive traces of use can be attributed to generations of technically accomplished musicians who played it extensively. Despite table retouch, which allow us to offer this violin at a low price, this powerful Didier Nicolas instrument is in well-kept condition, and the experts at our restoration studio set it up thoroughly and made it ready to play. Its large, sophisticated and warm, sweet sound gives it a mature voice full of sweetness – an instrument to fall in love with, a recommendation which speaks for itself.
