The exquisite artisanry and outstanding musical characteristics of this simple Prosper Colas cello bow reflect the most productive and successful phase in the oeuvre of this great French master, who crafted this light but powerful cello bow twenty years after his arrival in Paris. At the same time, they also echo the dominant influence of J. B. Vuillaume, who brought Prosper Colas to Paris in 1871, probably from his home in the département Meurthe-et-Moselle. Like other great masters from this period of French violin and bow making, Prosper Colas found not only work and inspiration in J. B. Vuillaumes famous workshop; he also successfully established his own career there, the apex of which saw him operating a solidly run business with several employees of his own. With this fine cello bow, Prosper Colas faithfully followed in Vuillaume's footsteps and enhanced the excellent natural characteristics of the round-planed breasil wood stick with great sensitivity and masterful craftsman virtuosity. Prosper Colas translated its elasticity and strength into a perfectly balanced cello bow featuring extremely pleasant, comfortable and nuanced playing properties as well as a clear, powerful sound of unmistakable French provenance. It is in perfect undamaged condition and ideal for sophisticated virtuoso interpretations. A certificate is optional.
