Small Mittenwald viola, probably Sandner workshop, 1950/1960 - vibrating string length 36.3 cm
This small Mittenwald viola from the Sandner workshop is in outstanding condition; it was built in the mid 20th century around 1950/1960 keeping with traditional Mittenwald craftsmanship. The beautiful grain of its medium grained spruce top and the mildly flamed, two-piece maple back have a luminous and glossly orange-brown varnish on a golden ground. Subtle details such as the precisely carved sound holes, the delicate edgework and the accurate purfling were cleanly executed and are typical of the Mittenwald Sandner workshop. This good viola has no cracks and was professionally reworked in our atelier. The sound is of power and beuaty, outstanding at the size - full of character, matured, precise and balanced.
