The viola top is made of medium grained spruce, the two piece back of flamed maple with similar ribs. The varnish is very typical of the 20th century Markneukirchen school, it is transparent yet of a dark yello-brown color. The huge scroll and the pegbox are carefully and very acurately worked out, the inlaid purfling is neatly let into the edge. This petite 38.8 cm viola is undamaged and offered in very good condition. The viola has a beautiful warm dark and full-bodied tone, well balanced and easy to play.
