François Peccatte violin bow / viola bow – designed for both instruments. Perfectly controllable, powerful bow with a brilliant sound, for professional musicians – collector's item and solid investment

François Peccatte (1821–1855) created an impressive body of work, but was denied the fame he deserved due to his early death. The fact that none other than Eugène Ysaÿe included one of Peccatte's works in his collection of first-class French violin bows is testament to the high regard in which he has always been held by top musicians. The violin and viola bows from Peccatte's atelier, which were made during his most successful period around 1850, are proof of how justified this appreciation is.

François Peccatte, the younger brother of the great Dominique Peccatte, stood in his shadow throughout his short life, even though he was every bit his equal as a master craftsman. This is evidenced not least by the deep and extensive collaboration that the two maintained in Mirecourt from 1847 onwards – without founding a joint workshop, so that the name François remained alongside Dominique and gave rise to high expectations. The violin and viola bows offered here, made around 1850, demonstrate the outstanding standard of work achieved by François Peccatte's atelier during this period. The strong, round stick made of light brown amourette has excellent elasticity and fits perfectly in the hand, both when playing the violin and the viola. The design of bows for both instruments is a special feature of French workshops, and bows like this one are real rarities. With its center of gravity in the upper half, this typically French violin/viola bow, including the frog, is 73.9 cm long and weighs 66.8 g. It allows for virtuoso, controlled playing with precise response and a bright, radiant, clear sound. The head, the nickel silver-mounted ebony frog with mother-of-pearl eye, and the tail are all in the unmistakable Peccatte style influenced by Dominique. Undamaged and ready to play after thorough refurbishment in our workshop, we recommend this François Peccatte violin bow / viola bow to discerning professional musicians who are looking for an excellent playing bow as well as a true collector's item and a solid investment.
