This Bavarian violin was made in the workhop of Max Krauss, follower of Herrmann Krauss who was a student of Dölling in Markneukirchen. Workshop founder Herrmann Krauss started his own business in 1898 in Erding near Munich. Only after a year he moved to the city of Landshut where he opened the Krauss workshop in 1899, where this sophisticated instrument was made in 1954, a time when the workshop was led by Max Krauss. This violin was fully in the Bavarian tradition after the Klotz model with characteristic, "stumpy" edges and slight camber in the two-piece back. The glossy golden brown varnish is perfectly preserved, with minor marks and shining in warm golden-brown colors. The scroll is precisely carved and elegant. The recommendable sound of this Max Krauss workshop violin is dark, huge, of very good volume, round in the lower ranges, bright and crystal in the upper registers. The violin has been made ready to play by our violin makers, it is offered undamaged and is preserved in excellent condition. Workshop founder Hermann Krauss received numerous medals for his outstanding stringed instruments.
