Fine French violin by Louis Collenot “Luthier du Conservatoire,” built in Reims in 1905

Louis Collenot (1863–1933) reveals his deep roots in the Mirecourt violin-making tradition, particularly in the legacy of the Caussin family, with whom he spent his apprenticeship, in the tasteful appearance of this violin and its superbly balanced sound. Even as a student of his uncle Hippolyte Caussin and as an employee of Justin Derazey, Collenot developed the keen sense of form, proportion, and sound that later made him a respected master. After years of learning and traveling, he established his own workshop in Reims in 1897, where he worked as a luthier du Conservatoire and soon gained a reputation for meticulous, beautiful-sounding instruments full of character. The violin offered here reflects Louis Collenot's high standards in every detail: the finest tonewoods, crafted with the utmost precision, a two-piece back made of powerfully flamed maple, and an orange-gold oil varnish whose subtle shading is typical of his more mature work. In its excellent condition, this authentic Louis Collenot violin is a rare example of French craftsmanship at the turn of the century. With its rich tone and radiance, it offers ambitious musicians a wide range of artistic expression – a worthy testament to a great master from Mirecourt. Its provenance is documented by a certificate from Bernard Sabatier, which is included in the price. Delivered free of charge, with a 30-day return policy and Corilon's trade-in guarantee.
