Mittenwald violin by Georg Rieger, which was made in 1948. The violin with its handwritten original label is an excellent stringed instrument, rare in its quality and good condition in its price range. There can be no doubt about the provenance of the instrument, that is revealed as a work in best Mittenwald craftsman tradition not only by the large scroll. The medium grained spruce of the top is a precious tonewood and typical for this region in southern Germany; presumably it is so-called "moon wood" that was harvested in the Karwendel mountains during specific lunar phases. The maple that was used for the two-piece back is of premium quality, too, and features a striking flaming. The softly arched model with pronounced flutings and edgework was built in best craftsmanship throughout and covered with a luminous golden-brown varnish that is full of character. The violin is excellently preserved and was carefully worked over by our experienced luthiers, who made it ready to play.
