Old Mittenwald violin, J. A. Baader, No. 4908

This well played and tonally much recommendable Mittenwald violin by J.A. Baader No-. 4908 that was made in 1922, ranks amongst the best sounding instruments of its price range in our catalogue and has an outstanding, mature and large sound that is immediately satisfying. The original label on the inside indicates the instrument's heritage from the esteemed atelier of J. A. Baader, who operated one of the most important Bavarian workshops of the period (other than Neuner & Hornsteiner). In its unmistakable traditional Mittenwald style, this J.A. Baader violin has a red-brown varnish with a patina and some traces of use by experienced musicians, giving it a beautiful historic look. The violin was made of quality tone woods from the Karwendel mountains: the top was made of spruce "moon wood," i.e. wood felled at a particular phase of the moon in keeping with an old forest tradition. The luthiers in our workshop paid great attention to this instrument and spared no expense in working it completely over, and its outstanding musical qualities are worth all of their efforts. It is crackfree and ready to play and has a powerful and mature voice that is precise, warm, clear, rich, bright and sweet in the upper ranges and full of resonance.
